The coronavirus pandemic is continuing to spread, having infected almost 870,000 people in the US and more than 1,200,000 in Europe. The total numbers globally stand at around 2,730,000 infected, while the death toll from COVID-19 has surpassed 192,000 as of 24 April, according to Johns Hopkins University. The United States occupies first place in terms of the number of fatalities and confirmed cases, while in Europe, Spain and Italy continue to be the main centres of the outbreak.

Most countries have introduced lockdowns and social distancing measures to curb the health crisis. For now, the world is waiting for the peak of the outbreak and further recovery from the pandemic. In the meantime, the disease has also resulted in serious economic decline, which has led to a collapse of the oil markets and jeopardised industries across the world.
