US President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital, something that he announced on December 6, continues to generate international ire and infuriate politicians.

Former CIA director John Brennan has lashed out at Donald Trump over the US President threatening countries with funding cuts prior to the UN General Assembly vote on Jerusalem.

In his tweet on December 22, Brennan expressed indignation about Trump pledging to retaliate against all those who were eager to say "no" to Washington's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

Twitter users were quick to react, with some signaling their support for Brennan's criticism.

Others, however, made fun of Brennan deciding to point the finger at the US President.

Earlier this week, Trump said that that he is carefully watching the way countries vote in the UN Security Council and General Assembly.

"They take hundreds of millions of dollars and even billions of dollars, and then they vote against us. Well, we're watching those votes. Let them vote against us. We'll save a lot. We don't care," Trump said.

On Thursday, the UN General Assembly approved a resolution that rejects Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel after 128 member states voted in favor of the document.

Earlier, the US vetoed the UN Security Council resolution, urging Trump to reverse his decision on Jerusalem, while 14 states supported the document, which was drafted by Egypt.

On December 6, Trump announced Washington's declaration on Jerusalem, a move that was condemned by the international community, including Palestinian officials, who described it as the US President's biggest mistake and a provocation.
