Fifteen Mexican Police Officers Killed in Ambush Attack

Considered one of the bloodiest and deadliest attacks on the country’s law enforcement, 15 Mexican police officers were killed and five others seriously wounded Monday afternoon in what is believed to be an attack from the New Generation Jalisco drug cartel.

The convoy was ambushed while driving along a mountain road in the state of Jalisco on Monday afternoon. 

According to reports, the gunmen, believed to be part of New Generation, used burning vehicles to block the road while they shot at law enforcement officials. 

Jalisco’s public security commissioner Alejandro Solorio told Radio Fórmula the ambush was retaliation for recent law enforcement successes, including the detention of 15 people allegedly linked to an assassination attempt on him on March 30.

“It was a reaction to the detentions and actions that we have carried out against organized crime,” Solorio said.
