West controlling Ukranian opposition: 'hackers were simply telling the truth' - expert

The Anonymous Ukraine claimed that Western countries are controlling the Ukranian opposition through intermediary of Lithuanian governmen. Voice of Russia talked to Jay Leiderman, criminal defense attorney in California.

Mr. Leiderman, what do you think was the motive for the hacker’s actions?

The motive for hacking actions in cases like this tends to be universally the fact that information wants to be free and that the people have the right to know what their government officials are up to. So it is all about disclosure and giving the public as much information as they can possible have, upon which they can base an intelligent decision upon what they want to do.

Mr. Leiderman, are the hackers in significant danger now that they’ve revealed these ties between the West and the Ukrainian opposition?

I think so, because people that expose information like this, always tend to be in danger. And sometimes it is a danger from the police and from arrest, and sometimes it is worse than that, its people that want to silence them in extrajudicial ways. But it is always, almost a revolutionary act to tell the truth sometimes. And all these hackers were doing was simply telling the truth.

How do you think the revelation that the West finances Ukrainian opposition will influence the critical situation in the country?

I don’t really know how it is going to influence the situation, obviously it is very unstable in Ukraine right now and very volatile, and any new revelations could tend to be more incendiary, but it is usually a question not of the revelation itself but of how the people involved in the revelation handle it, whether they are honest about it, whether they are truthful, what their reasoning is behind it. So it remains to be seen what happens how the leaders react to this.

Do you think the West will deny all allegations against it?

They usually do, it is hard to tell what they will actually do in this case. But the usual procedure is to deny or even just ignore. Maybe they won’t answer questions.

How do you expect Klitchko and the Ukrainian opposition will react to the revelations?

You know, actually much the same as the West. If they answer it, it’s often to deny. I mean, I hope they confront it straight on and explain what is going on. There may be valid reasons behind this, there may be legitimate things but politicians tend to hide when that happens and that is the wrong way to go. I don’t know how he will handle it. He should handle it by being honest with the public.

Mr. Leiderman, what was your reaction when you saw the news today?

I’m always impressed by the skill of hackers and willingness to expose private things to the public for the greater good. I’m typically pleased when private government emails make their way into public light.

Western countries financing and controlling Klitschko - Anonymous Ukraine

West is controlling Ukranian opposition leader Vitaly Klitschko, reported hackers from activist group Anonymous Ukraine. They said that they found the evidence in an e-mail account of the adviser to the President of Lithuania.

The Anonymous Ukraine claimed that Western countries are controlling the Ukranian opposition through intermediary of Lithuanian government, according to 15min.lt.

"We’ve hacked e-mail account of Laurynas Jonavicius – the adviser to the President of Lithuania. We’ve downloaded all the e-mails that were sent to him and discovered letters from Vitaly Klitschko.

The content of these letters shows how Western countries finance and control Vitaly Klitschko through intermediary of Lithuanian government."
