A US boxing champion and winner of four world titles Roy Jones has said he would love to become a Russian citizen. "I would like to get a Russian passport," the 44-year-old boxer said at a press conference in the run-up to his standoff with Zine Eddine Benmakhlouf of France.

"I like coming to this country. People are very friendly here, and they make one want to keep coming back. I am happy to be in Russia once again."

The WBA champion is to face Benmakhlouf in Moscow on December 21. He is not the first prominent foreigner to seek Russian citizenship. Italian actress Ornella Muti confessed earlier she had two dreams – to get a Russian passport and a role in a Russian film.

At the beginning of this year, French actor Gérard Depardieu got himself a Russian ID, alongside a residency permit, right out of President Putin's hands.
