Putin sends condolences over death of Mufti deputy

Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent a telegram to the Spiritual Administration of Muslims in Tatarstan in connection with an attack on its leaders.

He expressed his deep condolences to families and friends of the former deputy mufti of Tatarstan Valiulla Yakupov, who was shot near his home on Thursday. He also wished a speedy recovery to Mufti Ildus Faizov.

Putin has assured that "these crimes will be thoroughly investigated, and the culprits duly punished.”

On July 19th in Kazan unknown individuals blew up Faizov’s car. The Mufti’s deputy was shot dead near his home. The two men were known for their irreconcilable stance against Wahhabism and extremism in Russia.
