India Iran’s biggest oil customer
Iran’s average daily oil export in January was about the same as it was in December, namely, some 2.1 million barrels. At the same time, the oil rejected by the European Union as it started to implement its Iran oil embargo was bought up by India. India’s import went up by 37.5 percent, making it Iran’s biggest foreign oil customer.
The figures come from the Dow Jones business newswire service.
The agency also says India has found a way not to involve Turkey in its oil settlements with Iran. Turkey is seen as vulnerable to pressure as the EU is tightening its sanctions against the Iranians.
