New attempt to contact Phobos-Grunt fails
Another attempt to contact the Russian Phobos-Grunt probe stranded in low Earth orbit has failed, an ESA official said.
The attempt to contact the probe was made by a European station in Australia.
European Space Agency representatives say that a European station based on the Canaries will make two more attempts on Friday.
Phobos-Grunt, launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome on November 9th, failed to hit the course to Mars and has been stuck in low orbit ever since.
The European station based in Perth and the Baikonur space launch facility in Kazakhstan were able to receive a signal from the probe two weeks after the launch.
According to the US strategic command, the probe’s orbit continues to lower.
