Russia was among the first countries to offer aid. Earlier, the Turkish ambassador to Moscow said that a list of necessary aid items was being drawn up.

Last night, Israel flew mobile housing units to the quake-ravaged Van province in southeastern Turkey. Medical teams from Japan are working at the scene.

The 7.2-magnitude earthquake that struck on October 23 has claimed over 480 lives, injured 1,650 people and left tens of thousands homeless.

Most of those whose homes have not been damaged are afraid to come back, fearing new tremors.
