The annual Gordon Bennett race of hydrogen balloons has kicked off in Bristol in the UK. The crew that flies the farthest will be the winner. This slow-going competition has been around since 1906. Twenty crews are taking part this time, from 10 countries including Russia.

Twenty crews are taking part this time, from 10 countries including Russia.One Russian balloonist in the race is the nuclear physicist Leonid Tukhtiayev, a survivor of the Chernobyl accident.
