Returned Russian boy is not US citizen – Astakhov
Pavel Astakhov, the Presidential Ombudsman for Children, told the Intrerfax news agency that the seven-year old boy that’s been returned to Russia recently is not a US citizen. The official explained that this makes it impossible for US diplomats in Moscow to take the boy away from hospital, something they said several days ago that they would do. Astakhov added that the Russian trusteeship and guardianship agencies have already found a family for the boy to live in. According to Astakhov, the married couple has already raised two orphaned children. Besides, both the husband and wife are diplomats and speak English, which is important for the boy, the Ombudsman said. Last week Artyom Savelyev flew in to Moscow from the United States with a note saying that his foster-mother had disowned him. She has been put on the ‘wanted’ list in the US. The Russian public has been outraged by the occurrence. Moscow has suspended the process of adoption of orphaned Russian children by US citizens.
