Seven Democratic presidential hopefuls have qualified for the stage at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California: Andrew Yang, Pete Buttigieg, Elizabeth Warren, Joseph Biden, Bernie Sanders, Amy Klobuchar and Tom Steyer.

For Thursday's qualification, candidates had to collect donations from at least 200,000 individuals and gain at least 4 percent in four polls or 6 percent in two early-state polls.

PBS NewsHour and Politico are hosting the final Democratic presidential primary debate of 2019. There will be no opening statements. Candidates have 75 seconds to answer questions from the moderators and each candidate has 45 seconds for rebuttals or follow-ups, as well as a minute-long closing statement.

According to recent polls cited by US-based media, former Vice President Joseph Biden remains the leading candidate. Three candidates remain within close distance, however; Pete Buttigieg, Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders.

The event is taking place one day after the Democratic-controlled US House of Representatives historically voted to impeach US President Donald Trump.

Yang, says he would like to give each of the other candidates his book. “If you like data, this book is for you”, Yang said. “If you like data, and book”.

Buttigieg says it would be a gift to the nation for anyone on the stage to be president instead of Trump.

Warren, straightforwardly, says she will ask for forgiveness.

Sanders said "I could give out any one of four books that I wrote”.

Steyer said he wants to give “everyone on the stage” the “gift of teamwork”.

Klobuchar says she will ask for forgiveness “every time any one of you get mad at me”.

Biden said everyone on the stage is working for the same thing. He talks about reaching out to people.

The men on stage offered gifts. The women on stage have forgiveness.

Buttigieg said that children separated from their parents at the border should have a “fast-track to citizenship”, adding that his father immigrated to the US.

Klobuchar said she worked on a bill for Dreamers while in the Senate, but it wasn’t enacted because Trump “gut-punched us”.

Steyer said Trump “isn’t against immigration, he’s against immigration by non-white people”.

Yang mentions again he’s the son of immigrants. Then he talks about gender. “We operate in a fundamentally anti-woman marketplace”, Yang said, talking about fundraising, avoiding answer about 'Dreamers'.

Biden dodges a question about whether he supports reparations. Biden mentions the importance of immigration and Hispanic children in schools. He doesn't address reparations.

Warren brings up Buttigieg's closed-door fundraising dinner at a winery in California's Napa Valley, setting off the first big spat of the evening.

“Think about who comes to that. He had promised that every fundraiser would be open-door, but this one was closed-door. Bilionaires in wine caves should not pick the next president of the United States”, Warren says.

Buttigieg fires back at Warren, saying he is the only non-millionaire and non-billionaire on stage and that he' will take the support from anyone who gives it. "This is the problem with issuing purity tests you yourself cannot pass", Buttigieg responds.

Joe Biden, who would be 82 years old on Election Day in 2024, was asked if he would commit to running for a second presidential term if he wins the 2020 election.

“No”, he said, adding that “I’m not willing to commit one way or another".

“I’d also be the youngest woman ever inaugurated", Warren, 70, said.

Klobuchar says the US should send a message to Beijing that Washington stands with its allies.

Yang says the Chinese are way ahead on technology.

“We’re not looking for a war”, Biden says, but “we have to be clear that we are a Pacific power” and the US isn’t going away.

“The way the United States should be reacting in Hong Kong” is to form a coalition “to push back”, Steyer said

Joe Biden called the impeachment of President Trump a "constitutional necessity".

"It was a constitutional necessity for the House to act as it did", Biden said.

Warren said she sees “this as a constitutional moment” on impeachment, adding “that doesn’t mean loyalty to an individual” or a political party.

Sanders said conservatives understand we can't have a president with Trump's temperament in office, though GOP support for Trump remains high.

Klobuchar said “the law is king”.

Buttigeg said “this is beyond public opinion, this is beyond polls, this is beyond politics”.

Yang suggested that "we have to stop being obsessed over impeachment"

A diverse field of Democratic presidential candidates is now shrunk to a stage that lacks black or Latino candidates. The age of the hopefuls also became an issue. Trump campaign apparently decided to take advantage of the situation - after House Dems voted to impeach the US president - and kicked off promotion of a scathing slogan - 'Antiques Roadshow'.
