The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), currently in power in India’s north-eastern state of Tripura, faced an embarrassing moment during a public function when one of its ministers was caught on camera groping a female colleague on stage in the presence of Prime Minister Modi.

The video, which is being widely shared and commented upon on social media, shows Minister Manoj Kanti Deb putting his hand around the waist of female ministerial colleague Santana Chakma while she tries to push him away. Opposition parties are demanding that the minister Manoj Kanti Deb be charged with sexual harassment.

Other than Modi, the rally in Agartala, the capital of Tripura, was attended by state Chief Minister Bipalb Deb.

"Monoj Kanti Deb must be sacked and be arrested for touching the woman minister in an extremely indecent manner on the stage from where Prime Minister Modi, Chief Minister Biplab Deb and others addressed the public gathering," Bijan Dhar, a leader of the Left Front, told the media.

"The male minister has publicly harmed the modesty, sanctity and dignity of the lone woman minister of Tripura at a public platform," Dhar added.

Manoj Kanti Deb is the Food, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister of Tripura, while Santana Chakma, the female minister in question, is the Social Welfare and Education Minister.
