Strong Magnitude 6.1 Earthquake Hits Western Colombia - USGS

An earthquake with magnitude above 6.0 Richter scale is considered to be a strong earthquake. It can cause damage to some well-built structures in populated areas, while poorly built structures can receive severe damage.

A strong earthquake with magnitude of 6.1 has hit Western Colombia, the US Geological Service reported.

According to the agency, the earthquake struck 32 miles (51.5 km) northwest of the city of Tula. The quake occurred at the depth of 70.4 miles (113 km.

There were no immediate reports on any casualties or damage that could have been caused by the earthquake.
