A female Washington, DC police officer approached two groups of fighting teenagers with the intention of dispersing them; however, she was challenged by a high school girl to face off in a hip hop dance battle, which she won with flying colors, to the amusement of the cheering crowd.

The dance-off between the police officer and 17-year-old Aaliyah Taylor, Ballou High School senior, happened on Monday afternoon and has already attracted many admirers on the Internet.

The cop approached two groups of reportedly fighting teenagers, clearly intent on breaking up the conflict.

At that point Taylor walked out of the group, performing the Nae Nae dance to “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)”, a tune by the American rapper Silentó, which she played on her phone.

The officer, according to Taylor, laughed and said she had far better dance moves than that.

What happened next was a funny dance-off between the two, to the amusement of the cheering teenagers.

“Instead of us fighting, she tried to turn it around and make it something fun,” Taylor said, according to The Washington Post. “I never expected cops to be that cool. There are some good cops.”

Terms were laid down: the teens would have permission to stay if Taylor won the dance-off; however, if the law prevailed, they would have to leave.

The two danced for a few minutes face-to-face with the teenagers filming the spectacle on a mobile phone, then the girl apparently got tired.

Both dancers apparently declared themselves the victors, but the crowd decided with their feet and everyone left the area.

“I mostly hold my head down when I dance, so I didn’t really see her,” Taylor said. “But when I looked at the video after, I was like ‘Oh, she has some moves.’”

When reached by phone, the officer in the video said she did not want to be identified because she didn’t want to make the story about her, the newspaper reported.

“It’s kind of embarrassing that this became so big,” she is quoted as saying. “This is what we do everyday.”

The officer, apparently, has been with the force for about three years and recently returned from a tour of duty in Iraq.

Meanwhile, the video has gone viral over the Internet and has been shared thousand times on Facebook.
