The Houston Fire Department is trying to determine what caused an Islamic center to burn Friday morning.

The Quba Islamic Institute in Southeast Houston went up in flame before dawn.

The Houston fire department says it took crews about 40 minutes to battle the fire. No injuries were reported.

Islamic community members told USA Today the building was recently purchased and was to be turned into a family center for kids and place where area Muslims could pray on Fridays.

Tensions against Muslims in Texas have been on edge since a protest against the Texas Muslim Capitol Day was met with anti-Islamic protesters in the Capitol in Austin on Jan. 29.

There’s also been concern in the Muslim community across the US, after three Muslim-Americans were shot and killed in North Carolina on Feb. 11, in what appears to be a hate crime.
