MOSCOW, December 19 (Sputnik) — The man who crashed a car into the headquarters of Spain's ruling political party, the People's Party, is mentally ill, ABC Spain reported Friday.

According to the media outlet, 37-year-old Daniel Perez Berlanga, who has been unemployed for almost two years, was admitted to a mental facility for an undetermined amount of time and has suffered a psychotic outbreak in the past. A few years ago he was arrested for stealing a car. Crashing his car into the party's Madrid headquarters is not his first felony.

Daniel Perez Berlanga, from the municipality of Bronchales, was arrested on Friday morning after he crashed a car with two gas cylinders and several sacks of flammable material into the People's Party headquarters. According to ABC Spain, he told police that "he has lost everything," leading to an early suspicion that he was expressing his frustration due to a poor business deal.

The spokesperson of the National Police Corps of Spain told the RNE radio station that the incident was not considered a terrorist act. No casualties were reported.
