The United States and Israel have chosen to fund six joint clean energy projects under the US-Israel Energy Dialogue, which aims to encourage clean energy use and sustainable development, the US Department of Energy announced in a release on Monday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Energy Department added that the selected projects must contribute at least 50 percent to project costs and commit to repay up to 150 percent of the funding if the project turns out to be commercially successful.

"The US Department of Energy (DOE) and Israel’s Ministry of National Infrastructure, Energy and Water Resources (MIEW) today announced $5.1 million for six newly selected clean energy projects as part of the Binational Industrial Research and Development (BIRD) Energy program," the release said.

Among the approved cooperation projects, the release noted, is one between 3G SOLAR from Jerusalem and Arkema of King of Prussia, Pennsylvania that will develop thin and flexible printed solar photovoltaics for wireless electronics.

Another project between Haogenplast Ltd. from Kibbutz Haogenl and Global Solar Energy, Inc. from Tucson, Arizona will develop floating photovoltaic technology systems to decrease the cost of solar energy production over water reservoirs, according to the release.
