Speaking during a press conference on Tuesday, India's Foreign Minister Subrahmanyan Jaishankar said that he expected India to gain physical control over Pakistan-controlled part of Kashmir region one day.
"Our position on PoK is, has always been and will always be very clear. PoK is part of India and we expect one day that we will have the jurisdiction, physical jurisdiction over it," Foreign Minister Subrahmanyan Jaishankar told a news conference.
Relations between India and Pakistan have traditionally been tense over competing claims to parts of the Kashmir region since the countries gained independence from the British Empire in 1947.
The territorial dispute escalated early this year after a deadly attack in Kashmir on 14 February, when a suicide bomber from the Pakistan-based terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed attacked an Indian security convoy, killing over 40 personnel. The Indian Air Force retaliated by an airstrike against what it claimed to be a camp belonging to the Jaish-e-Mohammed in the Pakistani side of Kashmir.
In August, the conflict gained a new impetus after Indian President Ram Nath Kovind signed a decree abolishing the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, enshrined in Article 370 of the country's Constitution.
In accordance with the federal government initiative, the region will be divided into two union territories with fewer rights than the state.
