The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman has referred to France's approach to crises in the Middle East as biased and narrow-minded.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — France's approach to crises in the Middle East is biased and narrow-minded, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman has said, after the French foreign policy chief accused Tehran of "hegemonic" aspirations.

"Unfortunately, it seems that France has a one-sided and biased view of the crises and humanitarian catastrophes in the Middle East," Bahram Qassemi was quoted Friday as saying by the Tasnim News Agency.

Qassemi indicated that Western meddling in the Middle East had led to a greater instability in the region. He pointed to Western-armed Saudi Arabia launching deadly attacks in Yemen.

The Saudis are leading an Arab coalition in Yemen fighting the Houthi insurgency. The UN human rights office says coalition strikes are the are main cause of casualties among civilians. It estimates that over 5,000 unarmed Yemenis have been killed and almost 9,000 injured there since the start of the conflict in 2015.
