Russia Open to Temporarily Extending JIM Mandate
The diplomat said consultations on the initiative were scheduled for Friday. The UN Security Council is due to convene at 11 a.m. in New York for a closed-door meeting on Syria.

The motion follows two failed votes at the UN decision-making body Thursday on the adoption of two rival resolutions from the United States and Russia.

The US draft on a year-long extension was blocked by Russia and Bolivia, while China and Egypt abstained. The Russian document fell short of nine votes it needed to be passed, securing the support of four UNSC nations.
