According to a Sputnik.Polls survey, the majority of Europeans believe that the US made a lot of mistakes as the only global leader after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. In interview with Sputnik Germany, German politicians Wolfgang Gehrcke and Diether Dehm commented on the outcome of the survey.

According to German MP from Die Linke Party, Wolfgang Gehrcke, the time of the US global domination is over.

"Many see it, except for the United States," the politician told Sputnik Germany. "The United States is realizing it now, and for them it is a very difficult process."

'America’s Desire for Hegemony': South China Sea Row Reveals US Hypocrisy
According to the politician, the situation globally was more stable when the two superpowers — Russia and the United States — had to engage into a dialogue to discuss disputed issues. However, things took a turn for the worse when the US imagined that it can make all politically relevant decisions alone.

The current Middle East crisis, in Gehrcke's opinion, is to a large extent a "result of the war in Iraq, responsibility for which lies with the United States."

The United States is also responsible for the war against Yugoslavia that led to instability in Kosovo, the politician continued.

"The US is no longer able to promote their solutions worldwide. Perhaps they can still wage wars alone, but they can't cope with the consequences of these wars," the politician stressed.

A similar point of view was expressed by German MP from Die Linke party Diether Dehm. According to him, the hegemony of the US has had negative consequences on international stability in general.

"Humanity is now slowly awakening and realizes that US foreign operations so far only led to the destabilization worldwide," he told Sputnik.

According to a Sputnik.Polls survey, the majority of people in Germany (69%), France (55%) and Italy (51%) believe that the United States did a poor job as the only superpower.

When asked if the United States had succeeded as a global leader after the collapse of the Soviet Union, only 24% of Germans, 35% of French people and 42% of Italians gave a positive response. Some 10% of French and 7% of German and 7% of Italian respondents were uncertain about their answer.
