US Defense Intelligence Agency Director confirmed there is an ongoing investigation into complaints that CENTCOM top officials altered intelligence reports.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US Defense Intelligence Agency Director General Vincent Stewart confirmed there is an ongoing investigation into complaints by analysts that US Central Command (CENTCOM) top officials altered intelligence reports to downplay regional terror threats.

On Thursday, Sputnik requested a comment from Stewart on the complaints filed by 50 intelligence analysts with the Department of Defense Inspector General.

Stewart confirmed there is an investigation into the analysts’ claims, but added he could not make other comments because of the fact it is "an ongoing investigation."

US CENTCOM Refuses to Probe Reports of Civilian Deaths in Syrian Airstrikes
US media outlets have reported in the past weeks that Obama administration officials were altering intelligence reports on the Islamic State and al-Qaeda’s Syrian offshoot, the al-Nusra Front, in a way that made the groups seem weaker than the analysts had assessed.

The revelation of the large number of analysts charging the CENTCOM officials with misrepresenting intelligence assessments is being called a "revolt," within the intelligence community, according to media reports.

The US-led anti-ISIL coalition has been engaged in combat against the terrorist group for more than a year. President Obama and his top officials have regularly painted an optimistic picture of the fight against the Islamic State, describing the coalition’s success in recapturing territory in Iraq and Syria previously held by terrorist group.

Despite the White House and Defense Department’s reports of success, the al-Nusra Front captured the Au Alduhur air base in northwestern Syria on Wednesday, concluding a two-year siege by the group.
