MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The results of the elections in the United States and Western Europe showed the inefficiency of the western social and economic development model, head of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Department of North America Georgiy Borisenko said Monday.
"We are witnessing a weakening of Western social and economic model, which claimed to be universal. As proved by the results of elections in the United States and Europe, its [model] effectiveness is questionable," Borisenko said during the Primakov Readings forum.
Republican nominee Donald Trump won the US presidential election, despite expectations that his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton would come ahead. Trump secured more than the 270 electoral votes needed to win the US presidency, although Clinton won the popular vote with the support of 59.6 million US citizens.
