UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, US Department of State spokesman John Kirby said that the United States would disengage cooperation with Russia over the Syrian crisis, unless it took immediate steps to stop operations of the Syrian army in the city of Aleppo and reinstated a ceasefire.
"The joint leadership of the United States and Russian Federation in the International Support Group for Syria is crucial. Their joint leadership in getting a cessation of hostilities in place is crucial. Their cooperation, their continued cooperation [in] solving this conflict is crucial for where we stand," Dujarric told journalists.
The Russia-US-brokered ceasefire which entered into force on September 12 was shattered by numerous violations. Fighting in Aleppo intensified, after the Syrian army declared the end of the truce blaming militants for the breach of the deal.
