Moscow expressed hope that the recent attack by the US-led coalition on the Syrian armed forces hadn't been ordered by Washington.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed hope Sunday that recent attacks of the US-led coalition against the Syrian army, which led to loss of lives among Syrian forces' ranks, had not been ordered by Washington.

"The actions of the coalition's pilots, if, as we hope, had not been taken upon the order from Washington, are on the brink of criminal negligence and direct connivance with IS [Daesh] terrorists," the ministry said in a statement.

The attacks by the coalition planes near the Deir ez-Zor airport were first reported by the Syrian army on Saturday. The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the attacks saying they killed 62 servicemen and injured 100 more.

Washington later admitted the attacks saying Syrian troops were mistaken for Daesh militants.

Russia then called an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council. Russia is deeply concerned by the airstrikes carried out by US jets on Syrian army positions and regrets Washington’s unconstructive stance at the UN Security Council meeting, the Russian Foreign Ministry added.

"We urge our US partners to conduct…a thorough investigation and take measures to avoid any future incidents of the kind. In this regard, we regret that the United States took an unconstructive and inarticulate stance at the urgent UNSC meeting called by Russia," the ministry said in a statement.

"US representatives not only failed to adequately explain their actions but tried, as usual, to turn everything on its head," it continued.

The Russian Foreign Ministry again urged Washington to use its influence on the so-called moderate opposition forces on the ground and pressure them into carrying out their obligations under the terms of the truce that was brokered by Moscow and Washington in Geneva last week.

"Otherwise, the implementation of the entire complex of US-Russian arrangements, agreed in Geneva on September 9, will be in danger, which is contrary to the interests of the international community," the Ministry warned in a statement.

I have no idea why Russia keeps referring to the US as our partners? Because the US is very busy on destroying Russia and considered enemy number one!!!

US are trying to defeat SAA by striking, helping dash to exploit losses and gain control of the country.. seems like dash is exploited by both sides to retake its land after defeating it

Moscow is willingly blind to “hope.” I wonder if The Kremlin even feels anything when it sees all that destruction in Syria. It seems as if everything that has happened in Syria is just taken for granted. I thought the MSM was guilty of desensitizing the minds of billions of people, and yet The Kremlin, by its own behavior is also guilty of such atrocity.

Robert, Yes i agree with you about this topic. the title is not good. well in politics we don't have hope, it's just a term used to make the people know that they'll do what have committed. time for Peace with US has gone, because US even doesn't want to deal in Syria. they're preparing for a full scale war, that is what they want. they really want to control Syria, this is what they're fighting for. the best way to deal with this issue is to block every US flights over Syria and it's Aid in Syria then the terrorist will be defeated in less then a month. US already did the bombing and order come from US administration. that is the point. is there any order coming to US military other then Washington or think in Russia is there any order coming to military other then Moscow to bomb in Syria.

ali, this is my point: why the pretensions? It's far too late for the US to back down on Syria. If they do, they will face grave recriminations. Iraq is already too much for them. Just imagine if the world were to begin demanding justice for all the evils of the Empire. I know Moscow is trying to stop them in their tracks. Well, good luck to that.

The only policy should be to force US to leave the region. US should focus on fixing its own country. US's policy and behavior in the region has been a disaster. US's aim is not to bring peace and stability but to sell weapons. This can only be accomplished by keeping the chaos going.

alvaro.marfan, Obviously there are different influences there, who is "Washington" ?

It's a mess. The problem is that the usual neocons/neoliberal tribe own the FED, Justice, medias, Wall Street, Congress, apparently the State Department, and many more !

Then there are other groups reaping benefit from wars, not only in the US...

The usa is acting like a student pelting eggs at the house of the Principal who gave him a public strapping.

The ameicans admited it and mr putin needs to stop trying to look for excuses for his so called partners. This was a delibrate act in suport of ISIS by the USA in what can be seen as a slap around the face so mr putin are you going to turn the other cheek again because I don't think the double act is working after allowing Turkey to invade Syria
