Russia's president has emerged as a leader in the Middle East diplomatic game, while his US counterpart Barack Obama is currently being accused of a dual attitude towards Daesh terrorists, the Italian newspaper Il Giornale reported.

The newspaper referred to a recent opinion poll conducted by the SWG statistics center, which showed that about 49 percent of Italians support Putin's actions after a series of terrorist attacks in Paris, while only 32 percent of the respondents approve of the steps being made by the US President.

These figures are an important indicator of the efficiency of the Russian President' job, given that Italy is believed to be a "historically pro-American" country, according to Il Giornale's Giampaolo Rossi.

In his article, titled "Putin's Victory", the journalist analyzes the two presidents' reaction to the latest developments, which were closely watched by the entire international community.

"Putin gets kudos for effectiveness in the fight against Daesh, something he pays a high price for," Rossi said.

As far as Obama is concerned, Rossi slammed the US President's stance on the matter.

"Obama is accused of double standards on the Islamic terrorists and the Libya catastrophe which opened Pandora's Box, in turn causing an outburst of jihadism in the Middle East," he said.

Rossi added that Putin's victory can be observed, and not only via his ever-increasing popularity ratings: "first of all it is defined in the diplomatic and political context."

Rossi referred to a recent visit by French President Francois Hollande to Moscow, where he was expected to formally agree on military action in Syria; in actuality he was there to oblige the UN and NATO to meet Moscow's demands.

"The Paris attacks have persuaded France to be on Russia's side in the fight against Daesh," Rossi said.

He pointed out that Washington is powerless to stop Putin from becoming a leader in the diplomatic game unfolding in the Middle East. He concluded by saying that Russia is currently being seen as a world power capable of resolving international crises.

"Europe [has started] to realize the fact that Moscow is its main ally in the fight against Islamic terrorism rather than Europe's enemy", Rossi said, citing the defeat of the Russian President's main opponents.
