The White House's perception of the current situation in the Middle East is out of line with reality, according to retired US Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Karen Kwiatkowski.

Moscow Strikes Back at Nuland Over Statement on Syria Air Campaign
In an interview with RT, retired US Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Karen Kwiatkowski accused Washington of having a "totally unrealistic" approach to dealing with the current situation in the Middle East.

She also admitted that Washington's policy towards those it considers to be the so-called moderate opposition was a mistake, something that never brought results.

When discussing what she described as the illegal deployment of US special forces to Syria, Kwiatkowski said that "the Obama administration does not want to recognize some of the mistakes that they made."

"The President's actions go beyond all bounds. In my opinion, Washington's views on the current events in the Middle East is out of line with reality; they are totally unrealistic," she said.

According to Kwiatkowski, the problem is that the White House is unwilling to cooperate with Russia when it comes to the situation in Syria.

"It seems that they want to save face and that they do not want to give the impression that they are subject to Russia or react positively to its actions," she said.

Her comments came after representatives of the US State Department issued surprisingly contradictory statements.

Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland said that Washington is increasing its efforts to support the moderate Syrian opposition.

At the same time, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Anne Patterson said that part of the 'moderate Syrian opposition', which is supported by the United States, had become members of the terrorist al-Nusra Front, which is in turn affiliated with al-Qaeda.
