Angela Merkel's Thursday visit to Washington DC is her first during the tenure of US President Joe Biden and may be her last as the German Chancellor, as she earlier announced that she will not seek another term.

US President Joe Biden and German Chancellor Angela Merkel are holding a joint press conference in Washington DC on Thursday following a bilateral meeting.

Among the discussion topics for the meeting were cooperation in regard to several common challenges, including the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, climate change, international security, and various economic issues.

Additionally, reports said that Biden and Merkel were set to discuss the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which has seen Washington and Berlin at odds recently.
