The US state of Texas put to death on Tuesday the eleventh inmate since the beginning of 2015, Juan Garcia, media reported.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Garcia, 35, was executed at about 6 p.m. local time (23:00 GMT) on Tuesday for the murder of a man in a robbery in 1998 in Houston, despite testimony by the wife of murdered Hugh Solano that she opposed capital punishment for Garcia, NBC news said.

Garcia became the third prisoner put to death in the United States in a week.

Kelly Gissendaner was executed in Georgia for the murder of her husband on September 30, despite a number of last-ditch appeals, including one by Pope Francis. A convicted serial killer of Salvadoran origin, Alfredo Prieto, was put to death in Virginia on October 1.

More than 800 people have been executed in the United States in the past 15 years, according to the US Death Penalty Information Center non-profit organization. Texas put to death 329 people since 2000.
