WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan reopened a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit that sought records on Huma Abedin, the deputy chief of staff to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said in a statement.
“The reopening of this case brings Judicial Watch one step closer to forcing the State Department to ensure that the government records in Hillary Clinton’s ‘secret’ e-mail system are properly preserved, protected and recovered as federal law requires,” Fitton said on Friday.
Fitton called Abedin, who currently is the vice chair of Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, a part of the Clinton’s “cash raising operation.”
“The court battle to get to the truth about Huma Abedin’s ‘special government employee’ privileges at State is underway,” Fitton added.
In May 2013, media reported that Abedin worked as a consultant to outside clients while continuing as a top adviser at the US Department of State.
Abedin earned $355,000 as a consultant, in addition to her $135,000 special government employee compensation, according to media reports.
Judicial Watch dismissed the original lawsuit against Abedin on March 14, 2014, after the State Department informed the watchdog it had searched the former Secretary of State’s offices and those of her staff for relevant information.
