"Correctional Officer 5 Jason Self is receiving treatment at University Medical Center in Lubbock [Texas]. He is in critical condition," Clark said in a statement, adding that three other felons, Terry Johnson, Damien Rodriguez and Hector Rivera stay in critical condition and Remigio Pineda remains in serious state.
Injured prisoners are currently at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas.
Chairman of the Texas Board of Criminal Justice Oliver Bell expressed hope that injured will recover swiftly. He also thanked the law enforcement and medical professionals for their response, according to a statement released Wednesday.
Ten people were killed in a Wednesday accident, when a transport bus carrying 12 inmates and three correction officers slid from an embankment and collided with a passing train. The bus was traveling from the Middleton Unit in Abilene to the Sanchez Unit in El Paso, Texas.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing, according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
