MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The contest is being organized by Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency under the auspices of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO.
The jurors will select the best entries in five categories – "My Country," "World Colors. Harmony of Life," "Portraits: A Hero of Our Time," "Breaking News" and "Sports" – and award the top prize of almost $7,000 to the overall best entry.
The winners will be announced on August 4, 2016. The award ceremony and exhibition will take place in Moscow on August 30, 2016.
The total number of entries now exceeds 2,000, with works submitted by young photographers from five continents.
Among the contest participants are photojournalists from Russia, Europe, North and South America, Australia, India and Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa, who have an opportunity to showcase various photography techniques and experiment with color and black and white photos.
The 2016 contest is supported by major Russian and international media outlets, news agencies and photo societies, in particular, by the Xinhua News Agency, the Royal Photographic Society, RT, Independent Media, Shanghai United Media Group (SUMG), Academy of Photography, Geophoto.ru, the photography educational website photo-study.ru, the Moscow Union of Journalists, the Union of Student and Youth Media, the portal Young Journalists and the Uglich Photo Parade festival.
Young photographers between the ages of 18 and 33 are eligible to take part in the competition, which will allow them to establish their professional credentials and widen their professional network.
Rossiya Segodnya news agency's photojournalist Andrei Stenin went missing on August 5, 2014 in eastern Ukraine while on an editorial assignment. In September 2014, investigators confirmed that Stenin died near the city of Donetsk.
He was awarded the Russian Order of Courage posthumously for bravery and heroism in the performance of his professional duties.
