Trump has been projected to win West Virgnia, Ohia and North Carolina.
Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton held rallies hours apart in Raleigh on Monday, as the former US Secretary of State was joined onstage at North Carolina State University by her daughter Chelsea, husband Bill, Jon Bon Jovi, Lady Gaga and DJ Samantha Ronson.
A Quinnipiac poll released Tuesday had Clinton edging out her opponent by just 2 points.
Clinton called the election "a choice between division and unity," adding that, "It is a choice that really goes to the heart of who we are as Americans."
Trump reiterated his claim that Clinton is "being protected by a totally rigged system," and criticized the Clinton Foundation’s acceptance of foreign donations, remarking, "She threatened national security. She sold her office to the highest bidder."
Having chosen the winning candidate in every US election since 1964, Ohio is an essential state for Trump. A Columbus Dispatch poll showed Clinton beating Trump by only one point, while a News/YouGov survey gave the real estate magnate the same advantage in the Buckeye State.
On Monday CNN reported that the US Supreme Court rejected an emergency request brought by Democrat Party lawyers to reinstate an order that would prohibit the Trump campaign from engaging in voter intimidation and "conspiring to threaten and intimidate minority voters in urban neighborhoods from voting in the 2016 election."
Clinton’s stock dropped in West Virginia after she came out in support of the global limit on carbon pollution from power plants fueled by coal, a legacy resource in the state. The boisterous billionaire was able to carry the state with the broad support of West Virginia Republicans.
