UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) — The senator also noted that his goal at the UN General Assembly is primarily focus on "what do we need to do to accomplish President [Barack] Obama’s goal of defeating ISIS [Daesh]."
"I was very pleased with the fact I could get a meeting with Ambassador Churkin," Johnson said.
Johnson added that an additional goal is to focus on "the other hot-spot, from my standpoint, which is Ukraine."
Describing Russia’s UN Ambassador as "smooth," Johnson noted that the meeting allowed him the chance to hear Churkin’s point of view, including on the issue of the recent US airstrike on a Syrian army position.
Johnson serves on the Republican-led Foreign Affairs Committee in the US Senate, which has been very critical of Russia’s influence in Syria and Europe.
