MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Barack Obama discussed in a phone call on Wednesday the situation in Ukraine, the Middle Eastern issues and the situation on the Korean Peninsula, the Kremlin press service said.
"The heads of states discussed in detail the issues of the Ukrainian conflict settlement, the Middle East problems with an emphasis on searching for the ways to resolve the Syrian crisis and the situation on the Korean Peninsula," the press service said in a statement.
“Vladimir Putin stressed in particular that Kiev must fully and strictly abide by its obligations under the Minsk agreements, including on establishing a direct dialogue with Donbass, coordinating constitutional changes under discussion with it [Donbass], holding local elections, entry into force of laws on special status and amnesty,” the statement said.
Both presidents stressed the importance of upcoming contacts between representatives of the two countries on the Ukrainian issue.
The telephone conversation was initiated by the US partners, the statement added.
