The US Army has given initial approval for upgrading the range and accuracy of PAC-3 rockets.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) —The US Army has given initial certification of operational capability for a system to boost the range and accuracy of PAC-3 rockets, which are designed to destroy tactical missiles and aircraft, the defense contractor Lockheed Martin announced in a press release on Tuesday.

"PAC-3 MSE [Missile Segment Enhancement] includes a larger, more powerful dual-pulse solid rocket motor for added thrust, along with larger fins and other structural modifications to increase agility," the release said.

The MSE nearly doubles the PAC-3’s range and dramatically improves the interceptor missile’s performance against evolving threats on the battlefield, the release noted.
