The Russian armed forces operating in the Black Sea have acted very professionally during the deployment of the Canadian maritime task force to the area, Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Fredericton Commander Trevor MacLean told Sputnik.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Fredericton is currently deployed to the Mediterranean as part of Operation REASSURANCE to support NATO assurance measures in Central and Eastern Europe.

"The Russian forces were definitely present in the Black Sea, but I definitely would not say there were any issues," MacLean said. "It was all very professional."

In April, the Fredericton and her Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG2) counterparts were deployed to the Black Sea for operations aimed at improving the alliance’s maritime interoperability.

The Fredericton is a Halifax-class frigate with about 250 crew members, enhanced by a CH-124 Sea King helicopter and air detachment, according to the Canadian Armed Forces.
