The United States is not certain whether additional military personnel will be needed in Iraq and Syria to investigate Daesh atrocities, White House spokesperson Josh Earnest told reporters on Thursday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The statement comes after the US Department of State declared that the terror group’s actions against minorities constitute genocide.

"I don't know if there will be any additional requests that are made of additional US military personnel to be involved with this effort," Earnest said when asked whether an investigation into Islamic State atrocities would mean sending more US troops on the ground to collect evidence.

Earnest noted that even without the State Department’s determination, President Barack Obama had already ordered "robust military action" against Daesh.
