WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US and Russian military chiefs discussed safe interaction of the two countries’ aircraft in the Syrian airspace during a phone conversation on Tuesday, Defense Department spokeswoman Michelle Baldanza told Sputnik.
“During the call today, [US] Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph Dunford and Chief of General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces General of the Army Valery Gerasimov discussed the situation in Syria and the safe interaction of our aircraft over Syria,” Baldanza said on Tuesday.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said earlier in the day that the talk was initiated by Washington.
