Members of the US Congress seek to give Ukraine additional defensive weapons through a proposed defense authorization bill, US Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John McCain said during a press conference.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — When asked what type of assistance would be outlined in their final defense authorization proposal, McCain said they included providing "defensive weapons to Ukraine."

"Right now they have nothing to counter a Russian tank, a separatist tank," McCain said on Tuesday. "[A] javelin is one of the key items in our view that they should be provided with, and so we authorize it and encourage it by the administration."
