Pentagon confirmed the US-South Korea military drills have resumed.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States and South Korea have resumed the planned military exercise during which the US forces went on an enhanced status, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Asian and Pacific Security Affairs David Shear said in a press briefing on Friday.

"That exercise has resumed as planned, and we are conducting the exercise as planned," Shear said. "US forces went on an enhanced status as part of the exercise."

On Monday, South Korea and the United States commenced the Ulchi Freedom Guardian (UFG) drill amid intensified military tension with North Korea.

"That exercise was suspended temporarily, I believe the day before yesterday, in order to allow the US side to coordinate with the South Korean side on the <…> exchange of artillery," Shear said.
