WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States-led coalition against the Islamic State (IS) conducted airstrikes in Syria and Iraq, resulting in destruction of units, a dozen vehicles and several staging locations, the US Central Command said in a statement on Thursday.

“On Feb. 4, US and Coalition military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Syria, using bomber, fighter and remotely piloted aircraft to conduct three airstrikes. Separately, US and Coalition military forces conducted nine airstrikes in Iraq,” the statement said.

An airstrike destroyed three IS tactical units near Kobani in northern of Syria, according to the statement, while in Iraq, the coalition conducted airstrikes to the north and west of Baghdad, near cities of Al Asad, Fallujah, Mosul, and destroyed four tactical units, 12 vehicles, two staging locations, a bulldozer, a warehouse, and denied IS a key terrain.

The airstrikes were a part of coalition’s Operation Inherent Resolve, whose goal is to eliminate the IS terrorist group, according to the press release. The IS has been fighting in the region since 2012.
