A Palestinian was killed on Friday by Israeli soldiers in the Gaza Strip during protests incited by the US recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, the health ministry said.

"Zakaria al-Kafarneh, 24, died after being shot in the chest east of Jabalia (in northern Gaza)," a health ministry spokesman said in a statement.

Five Palestinians were injured by Israeli security forces, who fired rubber bullets on Friday during protests in East Jerusalem and in the West Bank, medical services said.
