    US Department of Defense spokesman Peter Cook said that the United States conducted an airstrike in Yemen’s governate of al Bayda on January 8, killing Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula leader al-Ghani al-Rasas.

    WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States conducted an airstrike in Yemen’s governate of al Bayda on January 8, killing Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) leader al-Ghani al-Rasas, US Department of Defense spokesman Peter Cook said in a statement.

    "This strike removes an AQAP facilitator in the area," Cook stated on Friday.
