MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Security strengthening alone is not enough to ensure peace in Afghanistan, the authorities must prevent terrorist brainwashing which takes place in mosques, Afghan lawmaker Abdoulhafiz Mansour told Sputnik Wednesday.

"Along with the strengthening of the security forces there is a need to fight the malicious terrorist ideology in the minds. That very ideology which was nurtured in terrorist centers of neighboring Pakistan and seamlessly exported to our country. Today, terrorist cells nest in a number of mosques in Afghanistan. The law allows the militants to abuse the benefits they receive as clergy. Thus, the recruitment of Afghan youth is carried out practically without hindrance," Mansour said.

He added that the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance must take on responsibility to prevent the brainwashing.

Afghanistan has been experiencing significant political, social and security-related instability for decades, as radical extremist organizations, including the Taliban, continue to stage attacks against civilian and military targets.
