Israeli Forces Close Palestinian Radio Station, Arrest Five Journalists
12:29 GMT 31.08.2016 (Updated: 09:40 GMT 05.12.2022) The Palestinian AL-Sanabel radio station in Dura, south of Hebron, accused of calling for attacks against Israel, was shut down by Israel Defense Forces (IDF) early Wednesday morning, as five employees were arrested and broadcast equipment was confiscated, the Jerusalem Post reported.
An IDF spokesperson said, "During the night, in compliance with the central command, IDF forces, in cooperation with Judaea and Samaria District Police, the Shin Bet, and the Civil Administration, raided Al-Sanabel radio in Dura due to incitement. During the raid, forces seized equipment and arrested five employees who were interrogated by security forces."
The radio station is accused of supporting attacks on Israelis and praising those who carried out acts of terror. The station also called for reconstructing the homes of two extremists responsible for the Panorama stabbing attack in Tel Aviv and the killing of Micki Mark. The station hailed those responsible as heroes.
Palestinian media has repeatedly been accused of incitement and providing support for terrorism.
Similarly, several other local radio stations have been accused of incitement. In November 2015, the studios of Al-Hurriya were raided and closed for six months for encouraging violence against Israel.
