Slovakian servicemen will remain in Afghanistan after 2016 under the framework of the Resolute Support Operation, Slovakian Defense Minister Peter Gajdos said Saturday.

PRAGUE (Sputnik) — As of today, 40 Slovakian servicemen are present in the country. The defense minister added that contingent could be expanded to 66 servicemen.

"We have decidedly confirmed that we will participate in the operation in Afghanistan even after 2016," Gajdos said as quoted by SME newspaper.

Resolute Support focuses of training and advising local government forces in their fight against the Taliban-led insurgency.
