Envoy: EU Should Influence Turkey for Kurdish Participation in Syria Talks

Russia expects the European Union to use its influence to resolve with Turkey the issue of the Syrian Kurds taking part in the intra-Syrian talks, Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin said Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Speaking at a UN-EU cooperation meeting, Churkin stressed the necessity to ensure a broad "representation of the Syrian opposition, including the Kurds from the Democratic Union Party, to which the Turkish side is openly opposed."

"We expect our European partners to use their influence to resolve this and other urgent issues related to Ankara’s egotistic and destructive policy towards Syria," the official said.
