Washington is in talks with Moscow discussing steps to curb violence in the Syrian city of Aleppo. The US government called on all warring parties to abide by the ceasefire deal.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US government is in talks with its Russian counterparts on implementing steps to curb violence in the Syrian city of Aleppo, US Special Envoy for Syria Michael Ratney said in a statement on Friday.

"Persistent violations and attacks on civilians in Aleppo…are unacceptable. We are talking to Russia to urgently agree on steps to reduce violence in that area as well," Ratney stated.

He also called urged all parties involved in Syrian crisis to adhere to the cessation of hostilities.

"We call on all parties in the area to abide by the recommitment," Ratney stated.

A US-Russia-brokered ceasefire came into force across Syria on February 27. It does not apply to terrorist groups such as Daesh and al-Nusra Front, both outlawed in many countries, including Russia.

Ratney said, however, that fighting has continued in the areas of North Latakia and Eastern Ghouta, and called the persistent violations unacceptable.

"The US government, and Russia, have been working to secure a general recommitment to the Cessation of hostilities by all parties," the envoy added.

Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with government forces fighting numerous opposition groups, including the Western-backed allegedly moderate factions, as well as terrorist formations.

Earlier in the day, a source told Sputnik that Russia and the United States had agreed to introduce state of cessation of hostilities in northern Latakia province and suburbs of Damascus in Syria from midnight on April 30.

Following the announcement, media reports emerged claiming that Aleppo would also be involved in the regime, but were refuted by a different source.

The recommitment to the ceasefire deal should take effect on April 30 at 00:01 Damascus time, according to the US government's statement.
